Preparer standard
Every preparer is checked before they join.
“Vetted” only means something if we tell you what we check. This is our standard.
What every Signed & Filed preparer meets
Each preparer’s profile will show how they meet this standard before booking opens.
You can look up any enrolled agent or Annual Filing Season Program participant yourself in the IRS Directory of Federal Tax Return Preparers (opens in a new tab). CPA licenses are listed by state boards of accountancy.
- A current Preparer Tax Identification Number (PTIN), checked every season.
- Credential checked at the source: the IRS directory for enrolled agents and AFSP participants, the state board of accountancy for CPAs.
- A minimum number of seasons preparing returns, with references. The minimum will be published before launch.
- Trained by Signed & Filed before their first return, with continuing education every year.
- Signs every return they prepare, with their own name and PTIN.
- Follows our posted price list and never charges a fee based on your refund.
